The PGA Tour schedule is undergoing some major changes for the 2019 season! Several events have jumped earlier on the schedule, some have been eliminated, and a couple of new events have been added. We’ve taken a close look at the changes and are excited – the changes streamline the majority of the season, bring out large tournaments regularly, and make it so we don’t have to choose between golf and football in the fall! Here are the tournaments you’ll want to mark your calendar for:
March
- The Players Championship jumps up on the schedule from May to March, starting the big tournaments for the season and providing a great lead-in to the Masters.
April
- No big changes for April—The Masters retains its place as the first Major of the year.
May
- May’s biggest move is one we’ve been talking about for months now: The PGA Championship jumps on the schedule from August to May and is now the second Major of the season.
June
- The RBC Canadian Open moves to early June from its previous position as a late July event. Now it will serve as a warm-up for the U.S. Open Championship mid-month.
- June also sees a new event added to the Tour schedule: The Rocket Mortgage Classic to be held in Detroit.
July
- Early July has a new event to the Tour, The 3M Open, which will be played over Independence weekend at TPC Twin Cities 2019!
- The Open Championship, which will be played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, will now officially be the last Major of the year in mid-July.
- The Bridgestone Invitational has been replaced by the World Golf Championship FedEx St. Jude Invitational, which will be played at TPC Southwind in Memphis in late July.
August
- The FedEx Cup Playoff is undergoing a significant change, dropping TPC Boston, moving from four events down to three, and moving up on the schedule so that the post-season will officially wrap up before the football season begins.
- Official events for the FedEx Cup Playoff will now consist of the Northern Trust, BMW Championship, and Tour Championship.
- We will still see TPC Boston when it hosts the Northern Trust every other year beginning in 2020.
